Slam Sundays: Things I’m Ashamed of and Things That Don’t Shame Me (Even if YOU Think They Should)

So. I was gonna do a deep and meaningful Slam Sundays. I really, truly was. But I just love this chicks style so very, very much. I was beyond entertained, and I think we all deserve to catch a message and a chuckle. That, and I’ve come down with the flu and feel like death on wheels. Soooooo I’ll save that whole deep and meaningful theme for next week and instead throw some “just because they’re entertaining as hell” poetry slams your way. So check it out y’all, and enjoy!

See? Tell me you didn’t laugh, at least twice. Ok, so the next one, was funny and yet awesome, in the fact that it’s actually social commentary on a whole different type of “ism”. Hmmmm, what could I call it? (more…)

Slam Saturdays: She

Sorry, for some reason this post did not go out yesterday like it was supposed to. Better late than never, especially for this piece. The poet gives an intro to her piece, so I’ll let her do the speaking for me.

*edit* apparently this poem link is dead, and I’m having some trouble finding it. But, as soon as I do I’ll have the updated link added to the post. Sorry y’all

Cheers

Slam Saturdays: Biracial Hair

Yes, I’m late. I get that. I apologize, but Caribana Brain totally killed any hope of this post being on time. But better late than never, no? Actually, with the Drake concert today (which I am very excited to say I will be going to) I’m shocked I remembered to get it out at all! LOL. OK, so the original link of this video is right here in case you want to check out the original, maybe subscribe to the vids. But with all my technical finesse I found you the video! This young lady has style and class, and addresses this issue in such an upbeat, funny and seriously real way. Take a few minutes out to watch it…you won’t be disappointed.

See, it was amazing, wasn’t it?

Enjoy the rest of your weekend y’all. And enjoy this random long weekend for the “civic holiday” (whatever that is! I don’t care…my birthday falls on the long weekend…who am I to complain that it’s not even a real holiday?!?!! LOL)

Cheers

Slam Saturdays: Hope

And who better to deliver this message of hope to us but the children: the hope of the future. I really needed a message of hope today, after my hospital stay delivered little, if any, of it. I hope it is as uplifting to you as it was to me.

Have a great weekend y’all!

Cheers

Slam Saturdays: On Sex

https://classicruby.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/sex.jpg?w=232Hey y’all

I know I’ve been scarce this week, and I apologize. All the agonizing and preparing for my 5 day hospital stay starting this coming Monday has clearly been affecting me more than I thought it was, because boy has time flown! But neither rain, nor hail, nor personal catastrophe can get me to forget about my beloved Slam Saturdays. This weekend, I’ve got a special one lined up for you. Since we’ve been talking all about sex his past couple weeks, I thought I’d keep up the theme for Slam Saturdays. Now, I know you’ve already gotten a little dose of Spoken Word Sex from the gorgeous Laith’s Brain Sex, but here are a few more that I think will do this topic justice. Enjoy (more…)

Slam Saturdays

To take a break from all the sex sex sex (lol) I thought I would take a little return to some deep social commentary. Check this one out y’all, I promise it won’t disappoint!

Damn! Awesome, right?

All that contemplation has got me mad hungry! *skips off merrily to the bathroom to get all dolled up for a Red Lobster FEAST!!!*

Have a great weekend y’all

Cheers

Slam Saturdays: Innocent Criminal

If you have a moment, take some time off of celebrating Canada Day and/or Independance Day and check this one out. It’s real, and it’s deep. Seriously. :-p (Sorry, I just couldn’t help myself). The title doesn’t actually simply speak for itself, this is one that’s gonna get deep into your mind, probably give you a bit of a mind f*** if you really, really think about it. (Not in the Mind Sex kind of way, but in that “changes your worldview” way.) Enjoy y’all

Happy Canada Day

Happy Independance Day

Happy Saturday

And have a wonderful weekend y’all!

Cheers

Slam Saturdays: It Started With A Toothbrush

I love this one, because it shows you that hell ya, Slam poetry has a very funny side as well. I’m not gonna even give y’all more than that, you’ll just have to check it out for yourselves. Enjoy!

Ahhhhh!!! Still laughing! But isn’t it so true? That momentary panic that sets it when you realize that ‘the two of you’ have morphed into the metaphorical ‘you’ that cannot exist without him/her so why even bother mentioning them….ever felt that? Lord knows I have. But once you settle in, you know that it ends up being soooo worth it!

Have a wonderful weekend y’all!

Cheers!

Slam Saturdays: My Best Friend Hip-Hop

I love when people put their own spin on Spoken Word poetry. Like this poem. Not only do they have a story, a theme, and a message, but they (yes, there’s two of them) have coordinated their thoughts and feelings in such a totally relevant play (sort of…well…you’ll see what I mean). This Slam Saturdays poem is on a topic that’s close to every true music lovers heart: on the death of one of the genres, the sudden awareness that not only did it die, but it’s been lost to you for some time. Like the loss of a dear friend whom you don’t see daily: you’re aware they’re no longer alive, but the first time it really hits you is when you pick up the phone to give them a shout to laugh (more…)

Slam Saturdays: Poetic Asylum

In the bible somewhere I believe it says that the youth shall lead us…or something like that. All I know is that in society the youth are not given the credit that they deserve on many levels. One thing is that they aren’t stupid: they notice just as much about the world around them as we do, and they care just as much that it’s going to hell in a handbasket. A young man is telling us to ‘open our eyes’ to what’s going on in our world today, try and stand for something, or we’re going to start falling for any and every thing. You gotta check this one out, it’s one of them (more…)
