It’s funny how ethnocentric our views can be. Even when we think we are accepting and welcoming and respecting of all people, no matter their creed, race, or religion, sometimes can can inadvertently be so ignorant it’s astounding. Now, I know that I’ve mentioned this form of prejudicial obstinate attitude before, like when I told you all about the story of the pick up line that goes a little something like “I don’t date black girls, but I would TOTALLY sleep with you“. Then again, I’m well aware of when that kind of attitude is being directed at me, or people I have something in common with (based on race, religion, gender, etc.). Like most of the world though, I often remain blissfully ignorant of my ignorance until something like the following Slam Poetry video crosses my path.
Now, this one is pretty hilarious, and it’s meant to be. However,
there’s a lot of truth in what they are saying, not only in their feelings about these things happening, but in the general implication that they encounter them all the time, and that the people who do it tend not to see anything wrong with what they’ve done, even when they’re called on it. Someone needed to have us all check ourselves, and I’m glad these girls stepped up to the plate. Trust me, your going to laugh, and every time you laugh it’s going to be one of those “OMG #Idoittoo !!!!” moments. Don’t just take my word for it though, check it out!
Yellow Rage
LOL you see? For me, the part that really made me stop and chastise myself was when she mentions the fact that every damn body stops them to ask them what they said, or how to say littleĀ inconsequential things, so they can immediately repeat, and butcher, it. Yeah. That’s me *hangs head in shame*. One of my goals in life is to learn any language they speak in Korea and China so I can understand what the hell the ladies at my nail salon are saying. And hell yes, it’s cause I wonder if they’re talking about me…. And really, if that’s my only reason, how vain and pathetic am I, really?
Ahhhhhhh good times!
Anyway, have a wonderful Sunday y’all!
And P.S. a little birdie told me it’s daylight savings time again. Boooooooooooo!!! Spring Forward time is without a doubt my least favorite time of the year. *goes to sulk in the corner*
Cheers!
