Why I Hate Tenants

Why is your music so loud that I can hear it, word for word, in MY apartment? I’m just saying…I understand completely that some people like loud music. I do, really. But it’s completely unnecessary to have the shit blasting as loud as it could possibly go. Especially when you have someone living in the basement below you and your speakers are sitting directly on the floor (no matter how many times I’ve told you that they sell padding that’s pretty much dirt cheap that allows you to stop the noise from transferring so clearly into my apartment…or that you need to take your sound system off of the damn floor…forgive me, I digress). You don’t own the house and are doing me a favour by renting out the basement to me…it’s the other damn way around. You’d think that would mean that their asses would have been evicted long ago, since they don’t seem (more…)

Days Like This: Part 2

For those of you who missed the first part last week you can check it out here. Don’t worry, I’m not gonna give a long preamble or anything since I know you’ve been just dying to get back up in it! 😉 I’ll start y’all off on the paragraph we left off on just as a wee refresher. Enjoy!

She saw blood in the middle of the room, unmistakable in its colour and consistency. Even from here. She looked frantically at her hands, her arms, her legs, her stomach. She felt around her back, but still nothing. She decided that it must have been her husbands. But why did he fly into a rage this time? That man could be so irrational when he was mad, flying off the handle, getting drunk and then trashing their home. They had had to move three times since John had lost his job, because the neighbours would complain and eventually theyd get evicted. God, sometimes she just couldnt stand him. There was a big difference between being in love with someone and simply loving them. She had never been in love with John, that she was sure of. And, although she is not sure (more…)

Days Like This: Part 1

Here is another Classic Ruby original short story. Only the twist is that I’m only giving you guys half of the story this week. If you wanna know how it ends, you’ll have to tune in next week Wednesday to find out. But without further ado, I present to you:

Days Like This
By: Classic Ruby

She watched listlessly as droplets of wine ran lazily down the wall and finally settled on the wooden floor, creating a pool for the jagged bits of crystal collected there. She had replayed the night over and over in her mind, analyzed it from every angle, trying desperately to recreate the situation so that it didnt end in this way, but to no avail. Suddenly, it occurred to her that she was still curled into a ball in the corner. She didnt know how long she had been there, in exactly that position, but she assumed that she hadnt moved since coming to rest there. She felt the cramping in her legs and stretched them out, grimacing with pain. It seemed she was destined to live in a world of agony. Exhaustion caused her (more…)

This Dad Sure Delivered!!!!

Occassionally on Mondays it’s nice to hear about a nice, cute, inspirational thing that happened. I spoke with a friend of mine on MSN today after not having spoke with him in quite a while. In fact, the last time I had a conversation with him he told me that his wife was pregnant with their second child. So, of course, the first questions I had were “Sooo…your wife had the baby, right? Was it a boy or a girl? When was it born? What did you name it?” and eagerly hit ‘send’. The little ‘replying’ bubble popped up in the corner and I reread my response quickly to make sure that in my excitement I hadn’t accidentally sent off some gibberish which he was currently reading while staring at the screen quizzically, trying to decide whether to make a guess at what my message was or to just respond with a ‘what?’ so that way I would repeat what I said, hopefully more carefully and therefore clearly (more…)

Dying Of Broken Heart Syndrome (literally)

Is there some truth to that old wives tale? You know, the one that goes something like this: ‘ Two soulmates can’t live without eachother. So when one dies, the other will very soon follow suit’. Normally, we hear about this with old married couples who have spent the past 40 years married and devoted to one another. Then one, tragically, comes down with some fatal illness or very suddenly passes away in some type of traumatic accident or even silently in their sleep from a stroke. The now widowed lover almost overnight loses all of their life and resilience, and seems to have joined the team of the walking dead. It’s like they  no longer have any will to survive. And then, less than a year later, they just — give out. Without any prior history of heart disease they have a massive coronary and die. With otherwise healthy lungs they suddenly (more…)

Have You Ever Cussed Off Your Parents?

Ever been so mad you see red (literally)? Ever been so frustrated or angry that you feel that you’re about to explode, implode, or seriously cause some damage to anything or anyone within arms reach? Unless you’re one of those uber-calm people that I can’t stand (cause you make me look bad lol) you probably have, at least once. So you know what it is when you get to that point where your blood is boiling and you’re beyond helpless to control it: it’s damn near impossible to make your thoughts, words, feelings and actions all seem to be a fluent, coherent, respectful and personality-consistent entity rather than the ugly, evil-eyed, fire-breathing monster they become.

Curse words fly from your mouth without even a second thought as to who’s around you or what type of environment you’re in. Suddenly, morals and codes of ethics you have ardently upheld and preached are (more…)

If The World Doesn't Revolve Around Me, It Sure As Hell Doesn't Revolve Around You

Hey y’all, I know it’s been a while, and I know that at best I’ve been sketchy to downright absent in the blogging community. It’s not that I’ve lost interest, or even focus. Rather, as usual for me when situations arise, mine has gone from bad to worse and as a result I’ve needed a few weeks rest. For those of you who missed my post on Not Taking Yourself Too Seriously, you may be thinking that perhaps I might be referring to the health issues I’ve had ever since my post on my Walk-In Woes. While those problems certainly have persisted, and in fact worsened if anything, what’s taken me out of the blogging game for the past few weeks was a car accident. One in which my car was totalled. One which occured right outside of a walk-in clinic (yes, another one lol) which I was going to because I was pretty sure I had some type of throat infection. One which, while initially I was in way too much shock to even realize I was (more…)

Don't Call Me Baby: Version 2.0

maybe in relationships you should wear one of these

As I write this, I am currently on my death bed (OK, so being sick makes me somewhat melodramatic :-p) and am unable to come up with an original idea to save my life. However, just the other week or so, I took one of my old posts, of the same title as this one, and I expanded on it to win a contest (I came in second place, which ain’t bad).  I decided it would be vaguely jerkish of me to come back on Wednesday and then disappear on Friday already. Sooo…Don’t Call Me Baby: The Uncut Extended Version is here to save the day!! Enjoy!

Oh, btw, I just wanted to share with you how irritating I find the term ‘baby’. Why is it that when two people get together they start calling each other ‘baby’ instead of by their actual names? I mean, an occasional ‘baby’ is fine, but all the time?!?!?. I think that laziness prevails and because one feels extremely comfortable with their partner their partners’ name is almost unimportant. All that matters is (more…)

Would Losing A Child Break You Down?

woman-and-man-break-upSo..I like to write, if that wasn’t already obvious to the naked eye, what with me owning a blog and all. But what you may not know is that I really, really like writing. There are times in my life when I say “screw it all, let me just sit down and become a famous author!”. Yes, I do understand it’s not quite that easy, but the way in which I am able to totally get lost in my story as I’m creating it, the way in which I NEVER proof read or edit or whatever else, and somehow or another it all comes out pretty flawless (I’m talking spelling and grammar-wise – if you don’t like my style of writing, obviously it wouldn’t seem so “perfect” to you, but you can’t argue that semantically it’s pretty damn good!) all makes me think that writing was what I was born to do. Of course, I have other ambitions which currently trump writing for the moment, so I get my release by making entries in my blog, but also by writing poetry and short stories. I actually have  a few of them posted on my website www.25andalive.tk. For those observant few of you, you’ll notice this is also the website where you could find my Digital Stories.

Anyway, so I thought I would give you a little taste of my short story writing abilities. I hope you enjoy it! Please let me know what you think…and let me know if the actual story inspires any thoughts, feelings, or memories from you.

Breakdowns
A Classic Ruby Original

She runs frantically from room to room, desperately searching for the children she knows aren’t there. She is in tears, on the verge of hysteria. It is almost as though she cant feel her legs anymore, and for a brief moment she wonders how it is possible that her legs still be pumping rapidly underneath her, propelling her from room to room. She doesn’t pause to think however, can’t focus on anything but her task. When she is not going through a panic attack, she wonders whether its the strength of a mothers love or the weakness of a traumatized mind that can keep her moving like this, sometimes for hours, never stopping, never thinking of anything but finding her children, never even feeling remotely tired. Knowing that the search is futile, but not being able to give up-being compelled by some inner demon, to the observer appearing almost as though she was being chased by an invisible monster (more…)

Sumthin' Wicked This Way Comes: Innocence Lost

I suggest before reading this post that you press play on the video, and let the speakers fill your mind with the stream of consciousness music that I had playing in the background while writing these contemplations. Take it slow, relax, let it all in: the vibe from the music, and not just the words but the messages embedded within. Let each thought, each memory, each piece of imagery take you to another place, in another time…if only for the few minutes it takes you to read it. I’m taking Classic Contemplations to a whole new level…it is meant to arouse all of your senses. Let it in. I hope it’s an uplifting experience for you. It was for me. (more…)
